Tidelands | Women and Witchcraft

My new novel is set around the time of the great witch-hunts in Europe. In Great Britain alone, around six hundred women were killed in witchcraft executions. There was a growing anxiety about the way women behaved – especially poor women or women living on their own. I discuss this in my latest video from The London Library and how, in troubled times, these women were easy scapegoats – their words taken as curses as people sought explanations for terrible things.
